Blessings at the Olde Time Spring Gathering

Today has been a really good day @ the Shack.  Lots of friends came out for the Olde Time Spring Gathering.  What would we do without our loyal customers and what a beautiful day for the Gathering.  We have lots of out of state customers that stop by to see us when they are in Florida.  It is always exciting to hear them say , we have to go to the Shack before we go back home.  We would like to share some pictures of today.  We are very thankful for the many blessings God always sends our way.

New Look @ Prim Shack

What in the world would we do without our husbands to help us at the Shack.  Next time you visit the Prim Shack we have a new look on the outside.  We are so blessed to have Godly men by our sides!  When a wife has a good husband it is easily seen in her face. -- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Prim Shack's Blessings

We often reflect on our personal blessings but we never miss an opportunity to identify the things our business is grateful for.
As small business owners, we are grateful for :

revenue growth
loyal customers
customers who refer their friends and family to us
overhead costs that are remaining the same (or at least not going up)
reliable web hosting

This past Saturday (without mentioning any names) at the Prim Shack we had a blessing sent our way and without a doubt we knew God was present.  Another blessing we remember is when we had a young girl come into the shop selling christian books and before she left,  asked us if we would pray with her and she led a beautiful prayer with us.  We have wonderful, dependable crafters who help us as the demand is hard for us to keep up with at the Shack.  Just a few of the many blessings God has sent our way at the Prim Shack.  For this we are grateful and will continue to keep God at the center of our business.

Olde Time Blessings,
Debbie & Vickie

Inspiration/Originality or Duplicating/Copying which causes Consumer Confusion

Duplicating, not creating. The all-time biggest crafting sin is duplication. Duplication is where you look for inspiration in what already exists, but - instead of using it solely for inspiration - you tweak it to what you need. This is a big no-no in creativity and crafting. By duplicating other’s work you aren’t creating, you're merely copying. Because it’s so easy to do, a lot of crafters will often duplicate work to fit their needs, rather than drawing inspiration from the techniques and pieces of other's  work so they can build on it, and they miss out on creating some of their own work. Don’t duplicate work, draw inspiration from it and then create something completely different.

A crafter may say, "Oh you inspire me to craft again", but really meaning. "I want your ideas"...and instead of coming up with their own ideas they copy yours.  What they don't realize is that there are infringement laws, trademark laws, copyright laws, and identity theft laws.  When someone or another business chooses to copy it can cause consumer confusion which can result in a law suit.

When a person comes up with their own creations and ideas, forms their own business ideas ...another person  or business should not be allowed to step in and copy.  That is why it is so important to be current on business laws and retain a business attorney to protect your business.

Primitive or Country Crafts????

Primitive crafts are home decor items that look as if they were made a hundred years ago but are actually new. Primitive crafts include dolls, paintings, quilts, furniture and even farm tools. The gift of crafting is open to many forms of personal crafting, which allows the artist a lot of room for free will and personal taste. Learning primitive crafting can be rewarding because of the qualities in each piece. Each piece becomes that persons own unique primitive creation...and not for someone else to copy or duplicate.

Even though primitives are new items, most antique stores have a selection because they appeal to antique lovers. You can better appreciate the simplistic styling of primitive crafts when you see them up close.
Notice that primitives and country crafts are similar BUT there is a difference.  The differences are in the details of the overall look. Primitives look as if they have been stored for a long time. They are stained, tattered, rusty and weathered. Primitives are more simplistic than country crafts and look as if an amateur craftsman made them. Country items are usually described as cute and made of unfinished or painted wood and most are manufactured.

Primitive style crafts are simple, classic and antique looking decor items. Primitive crafts can include just about anything you can think of that looks as if it could have come from early American homes. Deep rich colors are common in the primitive style.

Come into the Prim Shack and you will see some original "primitive" hand crafted items....rich colors,  stained, and weathered items, simple crafting done to depict  the Prim Shack's creations and to retain a simple primitive look.

Zacchaeus....NEW at the Prim Shack

New at the Prim Shack. Zacchaeus is sitting in the willow tree and the bible story goes around the base. Very cute to tell the story to a child or just to have sitting around the house.

This can be custom ordered and the base color fabrics can be your choice of color. Just another one of the many things at the Prim Shack.

Easter Primitives.....Only at the Prim Shack

This item is new from the Prim Shack...it took several crafters as a team to pull it together and the patent is pending. It is a great way to tell the resurrection story to your kids, grandkids, or even a house guest.

The tomb is 10x10 in size and the primitive Jesus doll is about 12 inches tall. Jesus is carrying His cross.

This item is special order....we have one in the shop so place your order early. Keep watching for new items.

New Items at the Prim Shack

At the Prim Shack we are so blessed with some awesome local crafters that help us with our crafting. There are primitive country shops by the dozen but in order to stay in business you have to be different. If you go on the internet there are thousands of primitive shops to choose from. You have to offer things that no one else has so at the Prim Shack we are always brain storming what to do next.

We are always looking for some different unique ideas and it is so nice to be able to call up one of our crafters with our idea and as a team we pull it together. Our customers keep coming back and the first thing they say when they walk in the door is ,"what do you have new"?

Some of our hand crafted items have pending patents, trademarks, and copyrights on them so we can keep them Prim Shack Exclusively. Come in the shop when you can for a visit and take a look at some of the unique hand crafted items.
